Create an experiment-note skill

Create and enable a skill, then check formatting and missing information.

Last updated

What you will create

Create a skill for organizing experiment notes, select it in a research conversation and check its output with two practice records. A skill stores reusable methods and formatting; each message still provides the records to process.

1. Create the skill

Open Explore → Skill Center and choose Create Skill.

FieldExample
Skill nameExperiment note organizer
Short descriptionOrganize conditions, observations and missing information by sample
Trigger keywordsexperiment notes,sample records

Enter these Agent instructions:

Organize the supplied experiment notes by sample, conditions, observations and open questions.
Preserve original values and units without changing measured results.
Separate observations from interpretations. Mark missing information as “not recorded”.
Do not infer duration, temperature, yield or device performance.
Combine scattered notes about the same sample. Flag uncertain sample associations.

Choose Create and enable, then confirm the skill is enabled in My skills.

2. Select it in a conversation

Open Research and start a new conversation. Type @ in the composer or use More → Add skill to select “Experiment note organizer”.

Confirm that the selected skill appears in the composer before entering the records. Trigger keywords describe suitable tasks; this exercise explicitly selects the skill.

3. Send practice records

Organize these two simulated experiment records without inventing values.
Sample A: annealed at 80 °C for 10 min; smooth surface.
Sample B: annealed at 100 °C; duration not recorded; cracks at the edges.
Use sample, conditions, observations and open questions.

These are practice data. The result should preserve the separate conditions and observations for A and B and mark B's duration as missing. Expand the processing view to inspect skill use in this turn.

To add a field such as “record source”, edit the skill instructions and check a new practice message. Rewriting a single assistant response does not update the skill itself.

4. Manage future use

In My skills, filter enabled skills, disable those you rarely use and edit your own skills. Disabled skills remain manageable and can be enabled again.

Before removing one, decide whether to retain its instructions. Skills define methods and output requirements; available tools depend on the platform's current capabilities. See Skill Center.
