Frequently asked questions

Resolve common retrieval, skill, workflow and access questions.

Why can't I retrieve a file that has already uploaded?

Upload, parsing and indexing are separate stages. Check processing in the knowledge base's document list and wait for indexing. Also select that knowledge base in your research conversation; the platform does not automatically search every base in your account.

Limits differ between knowledge-base uploads and conversation attachments. Knowledge bases accept 1–20 files per upload, up to 100 MB each. A conversation message accepts up to 5 files, up to 10 MB each.

Why can't I create a wide-bandgap knowledge base?

New knowledge bases currently support Perovskite only. Other types are marked as unavailable. You can search for wide-bandgap materials in the materials database, but that is a separate capability from creating a knowledge base.

What if a device search returns no results?

Check the device category, reset the filters and search with a single material keyword or paper DOI. Once results appear, add performance ranges one at a time, checking units and bounds. Zero results means this query did not match a record.

If the page shows a loading error, retry as prompted. For persistent errors, retain the category, keywords, ranges, DOI and error message when reporting the issue. For document retrieval within a knowledge base, separately check indexing and the selected base as described in this page's uploaded-file question.

Why does my device export contain fewer records than the search results?

Export view downloads devices.json for the current page. Matching records may span several pages, while sidebar paper, device-entity and layer statistics count different things. Check the page number and page size before exporting. See Export the current page.

Why is an added skill missing from my conversation?

Check that it is enabled in My skills in the Skill Center, then select it using @ or More β†’ Add skills in Research. You can choose up to 10 skills per message. Resolve disabled, removed or unavailable-source states first.

Why can't I run a template immediately?

Use template creates a workflow configuration. You still need valid structures and parameters, required inputs, correct connections and executable nodes. Run validation to identify problems. If the test panel asks for a user-input node, add and connect one first.

Why does the same formula have different band gaps?

Records may describe different structures, crystal forms or calculation conditions. Inspect details and sources by material ID before comparing them. If conditions are missing, preserve the differences instead of averaging values or choosing the largest value as a conclusion.

Why are project editing or invitation controls missing?

The project owner manages project information, status and invitations. Check your role and whether the project is archived. Contact the owner if the status or membership needs to change.

Project invitations and research-group invitations are separate. Accepting one does not grant the other membership.

Does synthesis design support every device category?

The synthesis workspace currently supports perovskite PSC devices. A paper being available in another Device Database category does not mean that the synthesis editor supports that device type.

The 3D preview helps inspect the layer stack. Design validation, model suggestions and reports do not replace experimental validation.

How does the calculation assistant differ from Research?

Research starts from a question and sources. The assistant in Material Expert works with the current canvas to explain, build and change workflows, then check or execute them when requested. See AI calculation assistant.

Why do I still see the previous result after changing parameters?

Drafts and runs are stored separately. An existing run still represents its earlier inputs and configuration. Check and run again to verify new settings, and confirm the selected run and its inputs. See Runs and traces.

Does publishing automatically add a marketplace template?

No. Publishing preserves an independent workflow version. Add a template separately in Template Center when you want to reuse it. See Versions and reuse.

Does a missing graph node mean the paper never mentions it?

Check paper and node-type filters, graph-building status and the loaded scope, then consult the source. Extraction may not cover every detail. Open related papers from the knowledge graph.
