Edit and navigate the canvas

Create workflows, connect nodes, edit settings and arrange the graph.

Create your workflow

Open Research Apps → Material Expert. The left sidebar lists saved workflows and provides search, rename and pin actions. Use New workflow for another task and give it a name that identifies the system and objective.

You can also load a configuration from Template Center or ask the calculation assistant to build the initial graph.

Layout controls the presentation. Connections and parameters determine processing, so check that branches still lead to the intended nodes.

Add and connect nodes

Choose Add node, search by name or browse categories. Start with User Input, add processing nodes, and finish with Output. A workflow requires one user input node and at least one output node.

Use a node's + control to add the next step. The next-step section of its settings also lets you add subsequent or parallel nodes. Connect the steps in input-to-output order, then configure data sources.

A connection establishes a relationship between steps. Select the specific structure or result required by the downstream field in its settings. See Inputs, variables and outputs.

Edit node settings

Select a node to open its settings. Read its description, then configure parameters and upstream inputs. Structure input requires a valid structure; transformation requires a transformation mode; output requires the results you want to expose.

Watch the save status at the top after editing. Confirm the draft is saved before switching workflows or running it. Recheck downstream references after removing or replacing a source node.

Start a new design or clear the canvas

New design starts another workflow design. Existing workflows remain available from the sidebar. Read the confirmation and make sure current work is saved.

Clear canvas removes the current design's nodes and connections and saves the empty graph. Use it when rebuilding that design. Create a new workflow when starting a separate task.

Once the graph is ready, continue to Checks and runs.
